As you know, I’ve been participating in Friday Fictioneers for the last few weeks and I love it. Not only does it push me to think creatively but it’s also nice to be able to read what other people come up with based on the same photo prompt. If you’re not familiar with how this works or if you’ve never heard of FF, you can find more information on Rochelle’s blog. If you’re interested in reading my most recent FF posts, you can find them here: “708 Fulton” and “Gone“. This week’s photo was taken by Roger Cohen and features two double bass instruments which were the inspiration for my story…

“The Music Keeper”
As a child, Samantha had dreams of becoming a dancer. The ballet was magical and classical music spoke to her soul.
“Too big,” They said.
“Uncoordinated,” They critiqued.
“Never,” They told her.
Feeling crushed, she grabbed a bow and picked up her mother’s string bass. It came from deep within her soul, through her heart, down her arms, and out of her finger tips as she played Concerto in D Major.
She felt empowered. She felt at peace. She closed her eyes and felt the music feed her soul. It was beautiful and it was hers.
She was the music keeper.
Good for her. She’ll give and get much pleasure from her talent.
Music is so wonderful, I’m sure she will…Thanks for stopping by!
Wonderful story, told with luscious language that lets us feel her intimacy with the music. Well done!
Thanks so much for the compliment, Jan! Glad you stopped by. 🙂
Lovely story. One dream dies, but another may be even better. Very upligting and inspirational. Ron
Sometimes the life we think we want isn’t the one that we’re meant to have. 🙂 Thanks so much for swinging by!
A nice inspirational piece. Sometimes other people force a change of course for the better.
I agree- she may find that this new path is more beautiful than anything she could have ever imagined for herself.
When a door closes a window opens. Happy she found a way to share the music in her soul.
Thanks, Rochelle! As always, I appreciate that you stopped by. 🙂
Lovely story – especially the music travelling through her and out of her fingertips. Beautiful 🙂
This was a delightfully renedered story about art and the artist. Simple and evocative. i loved it.

when we have a passion, we persevere. thank you for this story.
I agree. Thanks for the comment.
Lovely story. I liked how you ticked off her shortcomings… well written.
Thanks for the nice message, glad you enjoyed it.
the music keeper. we need one of those. is that piece of music you mentioned something you’re familiar with? a big fan of? or just a random choice? well done.
Thanks for the comment. While I’m a fan of classical music, I’m not really all that familiar with indiviudal songs. I listened to several songs as I tried to find the inspiration for this post and that one was something that just spoke to me.
