Machu Picchu….it’s such a beautiful place and it’s on the short list of places I’d love to go during my lifetime. Among the wonders one can discover in Peru is Maca, a native plant that is said to have all sorts of amazing benefits for human beings (awesome, right?!). Until very recently, I had absolutely no idea what Maca Root even was and my guess is that many of you aren’t familiar with it either. According to the experts, Maca root is said to help with:
- Chronic Fatigue
- Improving energy and athletic performance
- Improving memory
- Female hormone imbalance
- Menstrual problems
- Symptoms of menopause
- Stomach Cancer
- Sexual problems
- Boosting the immune system
There are several ways that you can consume Maca Root and today I want to introduce you to one: 500mg Maca raw energy supplements from Elite Gold Solutions. Although it comes in a pill form, the company encourages consumers to simply break open the capsules and mix the maca into your favorite foods like smoothies, shakes, energy bars, yogurt, desserts, baked goods, and even juices for a flavorful healthy boost any time of day.
My friends over at Elite Gold invite you to try out Maca Raw Energy Capsules for yourself!

Also stemming from Peru is the Yacon plant, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the potato. Unlike its doppelganger, this plant is said to help promote digestion, weight loss, and blood sugar levels. I was recently given the opportunity to try all natural, gluten free Yacon Syrup from Life & Food (which you can buy on Amazon). Although I don’t have blood sugar problems, I am always on the hunt for healthier alternatives to sugar (because I like sweet stuff, duh!) and Yacon Syrup is a great alternative to sugar in my hot tea and coffee. This particular product can also be consumed on its own as a digestive aid (for those using it to promote weight loss) but I prefer to have it with hot tea.
Here’s what the company has to say about their product:
“Our Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) Syrup is sourced from naturally grown organic Yacon fields in the country of Peru. We use the HIGHEST quality Yacon plant to make a premium pure syrup formula.
Yacon syrup has shown to remains low in calories and low on the glycemic index scale. This is due to the fact that the sugar contains high levels of oligofructose (inulin), a form of sugar that is not metabolized readily by the human body. For this reason, Yacon is ideal for diabetics and acts as a great alternative to conventional low calorie sweeteners.
PRODUCT DETAILS 100% pure Yacon syrup has shown to assist in weight management, increase fiber intake and promotes good bowel function.
Other benefits include: Lowers blood sugar. Prevents and controls hyperglycemia (over activity). Restores renal activity. Is a powerful Antioxidant.High in prebiotics and probiotics, this syrup contains up to 50% of FOS (fructooligosacharides).
It has been found that consumption of FOS does not increase blood glucose, and helps boost your bodies metabolism.Naturally grown and sourced from the fields in Peru. Organic certified by our manufacturing specialists.
100% pure raw organic syrup formula with no added preservatives. Bottled and tested in a FDA certified GMP facility in the USA.”
Since I don’t use this particular product on a regular basis (read: I’m not using it as a weight loss aid), I can’t personally speak to the impacts it has for boosting metabolism but I do think that products that are all natural are generally worth trying if you’re looking for a supplement to try out.
As with any product that you’re putting into your body, I encourage you to consult your doctor before considering taking this supplement. If you do decide to try it, I would love to hear what you thought about it. Feel free to come back and leave me a note in the comments.
