Introducing: Petbrosia (Review & Giveaway!)

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Petbrosia Review

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! I am so excited to introduce Petbrosia, a company that I’ve come to know and love, to each of you today and (AND!!!) to be able to offer one lucky winner a FREE box of dog or cat food for your favorite furry one. Who’s excited?! Everyone?! I thought so…

If you’ve read the about me section on my blog, you know our family consists of three humans, one dog (Winnie), and a cat (Catniss). If you haven’t read it yet, that’s okay, you can go do it now…I’ll wait. {Goes and grabs a drink of water, checks Facebook} Are we good now?! Alright, awesome. Let’s chat about Petbrosia.

Petbrosia Dog and cat food review

So I kind of like my dog. She’s been a faithful companion since 2006 and, especially now that she’s older, I want her to live a long and healthy life. One the best ways that I can ensure she lives longer is to feed her healthy, nutritious food. What I enjoy most about Petbrosia is the fact that they take the guess work of selecting the right kind of food for your unique pet out. When you navigate through their website, you answer questions that select the exact food that offers complete nutrition for your specific pet based on age, weight, activity level, breed, and any health concerns your pet might have. The company prides themselves on the fact that they believe in feeding your pet the very best food with all natural meats, vegetables, and fruits. Not only that, but they also have breed specific information to help pet owners learn more about their furry friend. Take a look at what they have to say about Cocker Spaniels. Ummm, awesome.

Petbrosia-Comparison-Chart

Winnie has been eating either Purina or Science Diet for the several years and making the decision to switch meant we needed a plan to safely switch her to a healthier diet. Thankfully, Petbrosia took the guess work out for us. They provide an online guide for pet owners that gives you an outline for switching your pet’s food without making them sick.

Beyond the obvious health benefits of feeding your animal nutritious food, I really love how user friendly ordering from Petbrosia really is. Their website is easy to navigate, ordering is efficient, and delivery is fast but don’t take my word for it: You can try out Petbrosia yourself with $10 off your first order when you use the code: BRL10 at checkout. That’s not all! ONE lucky winner will get to try Petbrosia for FREE! Whhhat?! So cool, right?! To enter, click on this Rafflecopter link. Hurry, this giveaway ends on Thursday June 5th at 1:30pm CST!

Here’s the link to the giveaway one more time for good measure: >>>CLICK HERE<<< Good luck and, as always, may the odds be ever in your favor!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

A Review & Giveaway from FlattenMe Personalized Books and Gifts

Book Review and Giveaway

Reading has always been an important part of the daily routine in our household. It’s something I’ve enjoyed since childhood and knew would someday become common practice when I eventually had children of my own. When I was pregnant with C, I found myself reading to her in utero (which, now that I look back, sounds a little crazy) and that trend continued after she was born. Now that a little older, she’s better able to understand and follow sequences of events. Reading to her has transitioned from looking at pictures to enjoying (toddler appropriate) storylines. I’ve noticed that she’s started to develop a passion and love for books and reading which is probably why I was so elated for the opportunity to review a personalized book from FlattenMe.Com. The company has also graciously offered to giveaway a personalized book to one of you (more on that below).

Owl Always Love You Personalized Book

“Owl Always Love You”, written by Robyn Spizman and illustrated by Erica Leighton, is a ‘bedtime story for little night owls’ (who doesn’t love owls?!). Each page is beautifully illustrated and sends a message of abounding love for the main character (which, in my book, is my daughter). It’s a reminder to children that they are loved, always and unconditionally. The pages compare the love we have for our children to things found in nature and daily life like a cradle loving to rock, rain loving a cloud, and kites loving to fly. The message is simple and easy for children to understand: they are special and they are loved.

The hardback book is comprised of fourteen thick, easy to turn story pages each with its own unique and beautiful illustration. You can take a peek at each individual page online here. FlattenMe.com also offers personalized photo books, journals, tshirts, wall art, and more online which make for great gifts for every family member. FlattenMe has offered to host a giveaway for one lucky reader to enjoy a Keepsake personalized Owl book of their very own (less the cost of shipping, which is $3.99).

To Enter (each option earns one entry):

  • “Like” the FlattenMe Facebook page and post a message on their wall telling them that #ItsAnOrdinaryBlog sent you (be sure to use the # hashtag so I can see the post).
  • Head on over to the It’s An Ordinary Blog Facebook page and tell me what your favorite thing about the Owl Always Love You book is.
  • Leave a comment on this post telling me who you would personalize this sweet book for.

A winner will be randomly drawn on Friday November 1st. As always, good luck and my the odds be ever in your favor!

Flatten Me

While FlattenMe sent a personalized copy of “Owl Always Love You” free of charge in exchange for my review and giveaway, I am under no obligation to write a positive review and all expressed thoughts are uniquely my own. Running On Empty (I’m Learning To Run + A Giveaway From Body Glide)

<a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://www.tomoson.com/?code=TOP3bbdf2c7c7df9c7163c439d2952695a8″><img style=”display: none” src=”http://www.tomoson.com/images/front/pixel.png&#8221; /></a>

Changing your life doesn’t happen over night so I’m taking it one step at a time…

Running

Raise your hand if there’s ever been something you wanted to accomplish but were extremely slightly afraid to get started.

I know I’ve mentioned this before (at least somewhere along the way) but I aspire to be a runner. It’s not that I want to break some sort of record or plan to complete a 26 mile Marathon one day; it’s because I know it’s something I can do if I work hard enough at making it happen. Like any change in your life, getting started is half the battle. I’m overweight, more out of shape than I should be, and slightly scared but at the end of the day, I want to know that I could survive a zombie apocalypse (which, according to my friend Sarah over at The House of Boys & A Girl, is imminent). So I’m hitting the ground running, one step at a time, in an effort to become the person I aspire to be. I’m on the hunt for a good 5k at some point this fall that I want to run (yes, run) the entire 3.2 miles and I’m looking for some of you to join me. You don’t have to be local and we don’t have to run the same 5k but I’m looking for a few people who are interested in coming along on this journey with me. We can connect on Facebook, chat via email, or update each other through my blog. You might be wondering what you’ll get in exchange for running with me. In addition to keeping one another accountable and having that incredible sense of accomplishment when it’s all said and done, I’d also like to share a Body Glide stick with two of you (who will be randomly selected from people who comment on this post). What’s Body Glide, you ask?!

Body Glide For Her

Body Glide is a company that offers products for active people.

They’ve created a line of products for men, women, and children designed to combat the effects of blisters, chafing, and muscle soreness associated with exercise. The Body Glide for Her is made from plant-based ingredients and protects the skin while still allowing it to breath and perspire. I’ve personally used the Body Glide both when working out, and when wearing things that would otherwise tend to chafe and it works really well. I like that it goes on smooth and is dry instead of greasy.

If you want to challenge yourself to become a runner, or if you are already a runner and want to take it to the next level, comment on this post and we will get this party started together.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using <a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://www.tomoson.com/?code=BOTTOM3bbdf2c7c7df9c7163c439d2952695a8″>Tomoson.com</a&gt;. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Learning About The Skin I’m In (Plus An Incredible Giveaway from Rodan + Fields!)

Regimen - Redefine

Let’s face it: None of us are getting any younger. As I inch closer and closer to thirty, I’ve begun to realize how important it is to start getting serious about skin care. More importantly, I need to learn about my skin, what I can do to best protect it, and what’s out there to help fight off some of the naturally occurring conditions that come with age, sun exposure, and life in general. That’s why I was so excited when Margaret over at Rodan + Fields (Hi, M!) sent me a mini facial to try.  I wanted to share what I thought about the products I recieved and also a very exciting giveaway that Margaret has graciously offered to one of my lucky readers.

The mini facial kit came with samples of three different products:

  • Microdermabrasion Paste
  • Night Renewing Serum
  • Lip Renewing Serum

After washing my face, I used the microdermabrasion paste to exfoliate my skin. An oil-free product, it’s designed to promote cell turnover, even skin tone, and smooth skin texture. Since I have sensitive skin, I was a little nervous about how rough it would be for me (or how red my face would look afterwards) but I was surprised to discover that after I rinsed my face, it felt really good. The night renewing serum, which comes in single dose capsules, contains a blend of peptides and retinol to visibly improve skin texture & firmness and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. And let me be the first to tell you that it is incredible. I have never, ever (ever) had such soft skin. It was like satin. The lip renewing serum, which also comes in single-dose capsules and contains a blend of peptides and antioxidants, creates the most kissable lips. I really felt as if I’d been to a salon for a facial. The combination of the three is just heavenly. Don’t take my word for it, though, try one for yourself.

Regimen - Reverse

If you go online to Margaret’s Rodan + Fields Solution Tool and take the short analysis of your skin, you can try a mini facial set for yourself. I should warn you- Be prepared to be impressed. It’s wonderful. The tool, which only takes about three minutes to complete, prepares a regimen for your skin type and needs and gives you ideas for products you can use in your daily routine to help keep your skin at its best.

One lucky reader will win a skin care regimen valued between $160-$193 curtosey of Maragaret and Rodan + Fields. The winner will be able to chose, depending on your skin needs, between one of the following regimens:

  • Redefine (Anti-Aging) – for wrinkles, pores and loss of firmness
  • Reverse – for brown spots, dullness and sun damage
  • Soothe – for sensitive, irritated skin & facial redness
  • Unblemish – for acne & post-acne marks

Regimen - Soothe

So what do you need to do to be in the running for this fabulous giveaway?!

1. Complete The Skincare Solution Tool (along with your email address) online here.

2. Head on over to the It’s An Ordinary Blog Facebook page, “like” it, and leave me a post telling me about your results.

3. Share this with your friends!

A winner will be randomly selected on Saturday May 4th!

Want to learn more about what Rodan + Fields can do for you?! Check out their entire line of products on their website.

Making Sustainable Choices (Plus: A Small Woolite Giveaway)

When I look back on my world view a decade ago, I have to laugh (and maybe sigh a little). I didn’t think about how my choices impacted the world around me and doing right by the planet wasn’t even something that was on my radar. A couple of years ago something just clicked with me and I started really thinking about my life and what role I can play to make a lasting and positive impact on the world around me. A friend of mine recently told me that “You have to grow into your better self” and I couldn’t agree more.

It's An Ordinary Blog

This week I’m doing a Kid’s Closet Connection giveaway. I talked a little bit yesterday about how these sales are a great way to save money but they’re also really great for the environment. Anytime you buy something used (furniture, clothing, toys, shoes, art, etc) you’re making the choice to help protect our planet. I don’t want to focus on the KCC giveaway but it does tie into what I want to discuss today. I am a member of Crowdtap, an organization that connects companies with consumers who are willing to give insight and honest feedback about products, ideas, and marketing techniques. Part of my membership includes the opportunity to receive samples from various companies in exchange for my feedback and participation in moderated discussions.

Woolite Washed

Most recently I was selected by Woolite to participate in an opportuntiy to try Woolite Washed, their every day laundry solution that “keeps clothes looking like new longer”.  The goal of the hosted party was to encourage friends to swap clothes. Not only is this a really sustainable way to get some “new to me” items but it’s also a fun way to get rid of some of that stuff that’s been sitting around in your closet collecting dust. Clothing, accessories, and shoe swaps are so much fun and it’s definitely something I would like to participate in more often with some of my gal pals. Not only is the idea of hosting an in home boutique great for the environment but Woolite is too. Their commitment to protecting the planet through their Green initiatives is one of the things that impresses me most about the company. You can find more information about that here.

I have a couple of extra samples that the company sent me on hand and would love to share them with two of my readers. SO, if you want to try Woolite out (the sample also comes with a $1.00 off coupon) leave me a comment and I’ll randomly pick two readers on Saturday to send the samples to.

Whether you turn off the lights every time you leave a room, recycle everything you can, host clothing swaps with your friends, or plant new trees every Earth day I hope that you’re thinking about the choices we all make and how they will impact future generations. Sustainability matters.

*Disclaimer: My opinion about Woolite and their products are my own. I was given the sample products free of charge in exchange for my honest, unbiased feedback. I happen to have extra samples and Woolite does not know that I planned to share them on my blog.

Growing Children Are Expensive: Here’s How I Budget (Plus Another Giveaway!)

In case you don’t realize this yet, let me clue you in on something….kids are expensive! In the first two years of life, they need new wardrobes every few months none of which they’ll never be able to wear again once they grow out of it. Now that my daughter is two she’s growing out of her clothes less quickly than she was in 2011 and 2012. And since I’m a stay at home mom it’s still important for us to stick to our budget when it comes to getting new clothes for C. One of my favorite ways to save some money while hunting for some great finds is shopping our local consignment sales. The Kid’s Closet Consignment sale is coming up in Blue Springs this week and so I wanted to take a couple of minutes to talk about the sale, what kind of stuff you can expect to find there, and to share a special giveaway that owners Kevin and Jill Moxley have graciously offered to six of my lucky readers.

Kid's Closet Connection

If you missed last week’s post about Kid’s Closet Connection, where I discussed being a consignor, you can find it here:

Selling at Kid’s Closet Connection

At a KCC sale you can expect to find name brand clothing and shoes for your little one at a fraction of retail cost. They have strict guidelines for consignors so you can rest assured knowing that the clothes you find will be well taken care of. When it comes to second-hand items, it really doesn’t get much better than that. Not sure what I mean?! Take a look:

Old Navy Outfit For Toddlers

I created an outfit with items that I would definitely buy for my own daughter and piece together for a fun Spring day out. From what I’ve seen, a lot of items that you find at the Kid’s Closet Sales come from Old Navy, Target, JcPenny, Gap, and other more popular clothing stores for kids and families.

Here’s a breakdown of what I would spend if I walked into Old Navy right now to purchase these items:

$10.00 on the Jeans (On sale from $16.94)

$12.94 for the Graphic Tee

$16.94 on the Hoodie

$13.00 on the Shoes (On sale from $16.94)

$6.94 on the Socks

For a total of $59.82!

In my experience shopping at these consignment sales, I’ve been able to find jeans for five dollars a pair, shirts for as little as $1.00 (usually two to three dollars), Jackets for around four dollars, shoes for under five dollars, and large quantities of socks for just a couple of dollars. Given what I’ve learned, I would venture to say that this outfit would likely cost me  around $15.00 total. And if I shopped on half price day, it would be even less, making the Kid’s Closet Consignment sale the ideal way to shop for your little one.

I remember the first time I went to a consignment sale in my area. It was Autumn 2010 when I was pregnant with C. I found maternity clothes, newborn clothes, and infant toys that were great assets to have on hand when C was born. I was surprised to see that there were high chairs, breast pumps, bedding, and just about anything you would need for infants, toddlers, and young children. I’m excited to explore the upcoming Spring sales and see what goodies we can find for our little lady.

All that said, the Kid’s Closet Connection owners have decided to do another great giveaway on my blog. They’re giving away six passes for early admission to the 1/2 price event on Friday evening. Interested in getting one?! Head on over to my Facebook page for the details on how you can enter.

Kid's Closet Connection

My Child Has Outgrown Her Clothes and Toys….Now What?! (Surprise: Giveaway!)

Nothing makes you feel like a pack rat quite than being a mom. Sometimes I feel like my house is really nothing more than a storage facility for baby and toddler items but not once have I ever felt like I was alone in that. Kids grow; They grow fast and, unfortunately, that adorable outfit and those sweet tiny shoes no longer fit my two-year old child. She won’t sit in an infant swing (okay, she might want to but she’s too big for it), she can’t wear any of the clothes from last year, and she’s emotionally outgrown a vast majority of the toys we had for her when she was younger. So what am I supposed to do with all of that stuff?! I’ll admit that I’m pretty OCD about her clothes and toys and so I’ve kept most of her belongings in very good condition…good enough that they could all be used for any subsequent children we may have down the road. Living in a house that’s right around 2,000 square feet doesn’t really give us enough room to comfortably store everything for that big “if” someday in the future (you might remember that we’re not sure if we’ll have more children or not). I wanted to talk for a few minutes today about what I’ve done with the toys, clothes, and baby items that no longer have a space in our home and I also want to give my local readers a chance to win one of
five really great prizes (more on that in a minute).

When my daughter was younger, I always tried to circulate her toys so that everything always seemed relatively ‘new’ (and it was easier to keep things in good shape that way). I would take the toys that she had been playing with out of her room and our kitchen (where many of her toys live) and replace them with toys that she hadn’t played with for six weeks. Eventually, though, as I’m sure many parents with young children well know, she grew out of those and we had to make the decision as to whether or not we should keep, sell, or donate the old items. I try to keep the favorites (toys, clothes, shoes, blankets, etc) and then figure out what the best course of action is for the remainder of the items. Then I came across the Kid’s Closet Connection sales in our area. I will be the first to tell you that I was nervous about signing up to consign with Kid’s Closet for the first time last year. I had no idea what to expect but it’s a great way to get rid of the toys, clothes, shoes, books, high chairs, and every other baby, child, and maternity item that you just don’t have the space for. The best part about it is that signing up to sell is so easy. Let me show you…

Consignment sales are, by and far, my favorite way to clear out some of C’s old items and earn some money for items she can grow into and to add towards her college savings fund. Owners Jill and Kevin (pictured below) have graciously offered to host a giveaway to my local readers for the upcoming sale in Blue Springs, MO.

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine & Goody QuikStyle Brush Reviews

Yesterday, I posted a Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal product review as part of a box I received from Influenster. Today I want to talk a little bit about two more items from that box (pictured below): NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine and the Goody QuikStyle Brush.

Influenster Holiday VoxBox 2012

I should mention that these items were sent to me free of charge in exchange for my review.

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine (Estimated cost: $2.49)

“Keep your lips soft as ever with the NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine. It’s pure pigment ingredients create a 3-D gloss effect while Vitamin E provides shine and moisture. The non-sticky formula creates the ultimate creamy and soft textured feel. Available in 10 on-trend shades from neutral nudes, to berries & fuschias.”

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine

I will be the first to admit that before I tried this product I would never, not in a million years, have picked this color for myself. I’ve also never tried NYC New York Color products. But guess what?! I love this product and I really dig the color. Here’s what my lips look like naturally (sans makeup):

Natural Lips

And here’s what the shade looks like on my lips:

NYC Liquid Lipshine

Aside from my lips being glossy, you really can’t tell that I’m wearing color (which is, perhaps, what I like best about it). It doesn’t feel heavy, it really isn’t sticky, and it goes on smooth. At under three dollars per tube, it’s a product I know I can afford to use every day and I definitely recommend it if you’re in search of something new.

The next product I want to talk about from my review box is the half round style brush I got.

Goody QuikStyle Brush Half Round Styler (estimated cost: $11.99)

“Once again, Goody brings innovation to your hair routine! Go from wet to beautifully styled hair faster than ever! Super absorbent microfiber bristles removes up to 30% of water as you style. It’s like a towel and a brush in one.”

Goody QuikStyle Brush

Allow me to admit something to you: I’m somewhat ignorant when it comes to fashion knowledge. Until I received this in the mail, I honestly had no idea that half round brushes existed. Imagine my excitement when I took it out of the package. This brush is cool and unlike my other round brushes (which is what I normally use to style my hair), I really like the flat back that doesn’t get hot as I’m using it with a blow dryer.

These aren’t the best before and after pictures (forgive me?) but here’s what my hair looked like before I used the product:

Wet hair

Five minutes later:

Dry Hair

The brush really does help to dry your hair more quickly and, because of the design, I didn’t have to spend as much time flat ironing it after I was done (which was an added bonus). Overall, I really like this brush. A lot so if you’re in the market for a new one…why not give it a try?

Goody QuikStyle Brush
