Wellness Wednesdays: iPurify Colon Cleanse In Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

iPurify Colon Cleanse

I’m trying something new (so please bare with me). Each Wednesday through the Summer (or longer, if I can keep up with it), I want to share a “Wellness Wednesdays” post with you outlining something that I’m doing to promote better living. It might be a product that I’m trying or an activity that I participated in but every Wednesday it will be something different and today I want to talk about a Colon Cleanse that I’ve been doing for the last week from iPurify.

I’ve always wanted to try a good colon cleanse (no, I’m not kidding) but I haven’t been sure exactly where to start. I looked into the possibility of trying one of those hydrotherapy colon cleanses in my area but think it might be best if I try a supplement first. I guess I might be a little afraid of what the hydrotherapy treatments entail.  That said, I received the opportunity to work with Reduxa, Inc. to review their 30 day cleanse. The pills, which you take at night, contain: Vitamins A, D, and E, B-1, B-2, B-3, and B-6, Folic Acid, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium, a Fiber Herbal Blend, and a Thermagenic Blend of Green Tea, Ginger Root, and Guarana.

The cleanse is said to help promote weight loss, eliminate waste and toxins from the body, and support digestive health.  According to the product instructions, you’re to take two capsules each evening with water after a meal.

I’ll be honest with you, I’m always leery of products that promise to remove toxins from your body because it’s hard for me to verify that’s actually happened during the process but I will say that what I enjoy most about this product is that it really does facilitate the removal of waste from your body (if you’re picking up what I’m throwing down). Take a peek at the Amazon review that I left after using this product:

Austin Powers kept asking “Who does number two work for?!” Well, he had clearly never tried the iPurify Colon Cleanse because I started taking this a little over a week ago and I showed number two who’s boss. This product will you make you poop. It does the trick. Well done, iPurify, well done.

I eat a decent amount of fiber in my everyday diet and so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this product but it really does promote the elimination of bodily waste (or, for lack of better words, it makes ya poo). While I haven’t noticed a change in weight or energy level, I’m satisfied in how the iPurifyColon Cleanse worked for me.

Questions about this review?! Feel free to email me anytime at itsanordinaryblog@gmail.com

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Vitacost Swag: In Review

A few weeks ago, I posted about an incredible $100 giveaway from my friends over at Vitacost. As you may remember, I was invited to be part of their incredible blogging program. The more I learn about Vitacost, the more I appreciate and respect the company (I’ll get to that in a minute). Today, I’m excited to share a few of their products with you. I typically do my “disclaimer” at the end of the post but, in case you don’t happen to see it, I want to be sure that I mention that Vitacost sent me these items free of charge in exchange for my review. I am under absolutely no obligation to write a positive review and any opinions I express are uniquely my own. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Now let’s get down to business!  I am planning to do this review in two parts. Today, I want to focus on introducing these products to you and then I’ll update in a couple of weeks with more in depth information on how the products have worked for me (more specifically the Hydroxycut, Cognitive Support Vitamins, and the skincare set).

Vitacost Swag

Featured for review:

  • “Hello, Beautiful (Dry): MyChelle Dermaceuticals”
  • Hydroxycut
  • Targeted Wellness Cognitive Support Vitamins
  • Vitacare Key Lime Toothpaste
  • Swirl All Natural Green Tea
  • Trace Minerals Power Pack (Pina Colada)

MyChelle Dermaceuticals “Hello, Beautiful” (Dry)

I always appreciate a skin care set that compliments me before I use it. I think that’s one of the things that draws me to the “Hello, Beautiful” line from MyChelle Dermaceuticals. Valued at just over $15.00, Vitacost offers this mini set as a way to introduce you to products for your everyday needs.  The all natural (yes, you heard me) ingredients are intended to leave you feeling fresh and clean and they really do just that. The products smell nice, are easy to use, and leave my skin feeling refreshed. I’m excited to check back with you guys in a couple of weeks to let you know how it’s worked for me over time.

Hydroxycut

I will be the first to admit that I’m a skeptic when it comes to using products aimed at offering a ‘quick fix’ to weight loss. But, at the end of the day, most of us struggle with those temptations for something sweet or maybe need to cut back on our calorie intake during the day. Included in the box, which retails at just over $20, is 21 packets of drink mix which is intended to be mixed with 16oz of water. I decided that I wanted to approach this review with an open mind and my initial reaction to the Hydroxycut is positive. It’s a really sweet drink so, even though the suggested use is to take it 30 minutes before a meal, I could see myself replacing a snack with the drink instead.

Targeted Wellness Cognitive Support

The name sounds fancy, am I right?! In a nutshell, the Targeted Wellness Cognitive Support vitamins are really just a codename for brain pills. 60 of these bad boys will cost you just under $25 and they’re aimed at promoting healthy brain function and memory recall. I’m excited to try these every day and report back to you my thoughts. Stay tuned…

Vitacare Key Lime Toothpaste

This fluoride free whitening toothpaste has a minty key lime taste. Yes, key lime. In case you’re not understanding or somehow forgot (which, if that’s the case, see above) I said Key Lime flavored toothpaste. While this isn’t necessarily something that struck my fancy for everyday use, I could see the appeal. If you really like Key Lime and mint, are planning a hot and heavy makeout session with someone who happens to enjoy key lime and mint, or are stuck on an island and want the flavor along with clean teeth. A 3.4 ounce tube retails at around $5.

Swirl All Natural Green Tea Packets

The name of this pretty much speaks for itself. It’s tiny packets of green tea leaves that you drop into a bottle of water and let steep for about ten minutes before drinking it. And it’s awesome. It also happens to be very affordable (two packs of ten for just over $5). It’s what I call a WIN. The packets are really easy to use and the taste was just about what I expected (awesome). The only thing that I wasn’t terribly crazy about was that they don’t come individually wrapped (which is probably better for the environment anyway) so it makes it hard to take them on the go or share with a friend. Don’t let that stop you from trying, though, because I highly recommend them to any tea drinker.

Trace Minerals Power Pack (Pina Colada)

The power packs are a gluten free, vegan fizzy drink mix that offers electrolytes, potassium, and antioxidants. Initially, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Pina Colada flavor but I’m planning to take a bottle with me during a workout coming up (more on that later) and see if I feel any differently about it then. A box of 32 packets will cost you just over $12.

Vitacost

One of the things I love most about Vitacost is the versatility of their product line. No matter what you’re in search of, they’ve likely got you covered. I’m really excited to report back to all of you in a few weeks to give an update but, in the meantime, if you’re interested in trying any of these products with me you can find them on the Vitacost website. You can also find them on Facebook. When you stop by, be sure to tell them that Holli from It’s An Ordinary Blog sent you!

Running On Empty (I’m Learning To Run + A Giveaway From Body Glide)

<a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://www.tomoson.com/?code=TOP3bbdf2c7c7df9c7163c439d2952695a8″><img style=”display: none” src=”http://www.tomoson.com/images/front/pixel.png&#8221; /></a>

Changing your life doesn’t happen over night so I’m taking it one step at a time…

Running

Raise your hand if there’s ever been something you wanted to accomplish but were extremely slightly afraid to get started.

I know I’ve mentioned this before (at least somewhere along the way) but I aspire to be a runner. It’s not that I want to break some sort of record or plan to complete a 26 mile Marathon one day; it’s because I know it’s something I can do if I work hard enough at making it happen. Like any change in your life, getting started is half the battle. I’m overweight, more out of shape than I should be, and slightly scared but at the end of the day, I want to know that I could survive a zombie apocalypse (which, according to my friend Sarah over at The House of Boys & A Girl, is imminent). So I’m hitting the ground running, one step at a time, in an effort to become the person I aspire to be. I’m on the hunt for a good 5k at some point this fall that I want to run (yes, run) the entire 3.2 miles and I’m looking for some of you to join me. You don’t have to be local and we don’t have to run the same 5k but I’m looking for a few people who are interested in coming along on this journey with me. We can connect on Facebook, chat via email, or update each other through my blog. You might be wondering what you’ll get in exchange for running with me. In addition to keeping one another accountable and having that incredible sense of accomplishment when it’s all said and done, I’d also like to share a Body Glide stick with two of you (who will be randomly selected from people who comment on this post). What’s Body Glide, you ask?!

Body Glide For Her

Body Glide is a company that offers products for active people.

They’ve created a line of products for men, women, and children designed to combat the effects of blisters, chafing, and muscle soreness associated with exercise. The Body Glide for Her is made from plant-based ingredients and protects the skin while still allowing it to breath and perspire. I’ve personally used the Body Glide both when working out, and when wearing things that would otherwise tend to chafe and it works really well. I like that it goes on smooth and is dry instead of greasy.

If you want to challenge yourself to become a runner, or if you are already a runner and want to take it to the next level, comment on this post and we will get this party started together.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using <a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://www.tomoson.com/?code=BOTTOM3bbdf2c7c7df9c7163c439d2952695a8″>Tomoson.com</a&gt;. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Learning About The Skin I’m In (Plus An Incredible Giveaway from Rodan + Fields!)

Regimen - Redefine

Let’s face it: None of us are getting any younger. As I inch closer and closer to thirty, I’ve begun to realize how important it is to start getting serious about skin care. More importantly, I need to learn about my skin, what I can do to best protect it, and what’s out there to help fight off some of the naturally occurring conditions that come with age, sun exposure, and life in general. That’s why I was so excited when Margaret over at Rodan + Fields (Hi, M!) sent me a mini facial to try.  I wanted to share what I thought about the products I recieved and also a very exciting giveaway that Margaret has graciously offered to one of my lucky readers.

The mini facial kit came with samples of three different products:

  • Microdermabrasion Paste
  • Night Renewing Serum
  • Lip Renewing Serum

After washing my face, I used the microdermabrasion paste to exfoliate my skin. An oil-free product, it’s designed to promote cell turnover, even skin tone, and smooth skin texture. Since I have sensitive skin, I was a little nervous about how rough it would be for me (or how red my face would look afterwards) but I was surprised to discover that after I rinsed my face, it felt really good. The night renewing serum, which comes in single dose capsules, contains a blend of peptides and retinol to visibly improve skin texture & firmness and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. And let me be the first to tell you that it is incredible. I have never, ever (ever) had such soft skin. It was like satin. The lip renewing serum, which also comes in single-dose capsules and contains a blend of peptides and antioxidants, creates the most kissable lips. I really felt as if I’d been to a salon for a facial. The combination of the three is just heavenly. Don’t take my word for it, though, try one for yourself.

Regimen - Reverse

If you go online to Margaret’s Rodan + Fields Solution Tool and take the short analysis of your skin, you can try a mini facial set for yourself. I should warn you- Be prepared to be impressed. It’s wonderful. The tool, which only takes about three minutes to complete, prepares a regimen for your skin type and needs and gives you ideas for products you can use in your daily routine to help keep your skin at its best.

One lucky reader will win a skin care regimen valued between $160-$193 curtosey of Maragaret and Rodan + Fields. The winner will be able to chose, depending on your skin needs, between one of the following regimens:

  • Redefine (Anti-Aging) – for wrinkles, pores and loss of firmness
  • Reverse – for brown spots, dullness and sun damage
  • Soothe – for sensitive, irritated skin & facial redness
  • Unblemish – for acne & post-acne marks

Regimen - Soothe

So what do you need to do to be in the running for this fabulous giveaway?!

1. Complete The Skincare Solution Tool (along with your email address) online here.

2. Head on over to the It’s An Ordinary Blog Facebook page, “like” it, and leave me a post telling me about your results.

3. Share this with your friends!

A winner will be randomly selected on Saturday May 4th!

Want to learn more about what Rodan + Fields can do for you?! Check out their entire line of products on their website.

Uterus: Vacancy (About Drinking)

wine cellar

I’ll be the first to tell you that I enjoy a nice glass of wine every now and then but I’m really not much of a drinker. When my husband and I first found out we were pregnant in September 2009, I stopped drinking. When we lost that pregnancy, we knew we wanted to start trying again as soon as we were in the clear so regular drinking wasn’t a habit I started up again. I would have a little every once in a while but it really only amounted to one drink a month. After C was born, I was giving her breast milk and so drinking was still not something that was on my radar. To be honest, I was glad for the excuse to turn down drinks when I didn’t want one. Now that C is older (she’ll be 2 in February) and we’re not trying to have another child, I don’t have the built-in excuse for not drinking.

I don’t have a problem with alcohol, I’m not sick, there’s nothing wrong with me…

I just don’t feel like having alcohol most of the time. And that’s okay.

For some reason, when women of childbearing age turn down drinks people automatically assume one thing: P-R-E-G-N-A-N-C-Y. Why?

I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve had someone ask me why I’m not drinking…or give me a smile, or a little wink when I turn down a glass of wine but really, honestly, it has absolutely nothing to do with the state of my uterus (which, as I’ve stated before, is empty). I really and truly just prefer iced tea over alcohol. It’s how I am and it’s what I like and I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

So this message goes to all of you who have friends and family in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties who frequently turn down wine or other drinks: STOP ASSUMING WE’RE PREGNANT. Please and thank you. I’m not holding some big secret and I have nothing to hide. If and (/0r) when we ever get pregnant again, I promise I will tell you…until then, let it go.

Baking Soda For Whiter Teeth?! Come On In & Find Out…

I once did a little research (for a former client of mine) on ways to whiten teeth at home. I learned some things that I didn’t know like that the malic acid naturally found in strawberries helps to whiten teeth. I also re-visited a few things that I did know like that eating carrots, celery, and raw potatoes (the only person I know that will eat a potato raw is my grandmother) can help bring a brighter smile. One thing I came across, and have been meaning to try, is a combination of toothpaste, baking soda, and water. I will warn you, if you’re going to do this at home, try to limit yourself to once or twice a week since large amounts of baking soda have shown to reduce the enamel on your teeth (I’m not an expert on this matter, it’s just what I read).

Before:

Let’s begin…

  • You’ll need:
  • Baking Soda
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Water

I filled the bottom of one of my toddler’s meal bowls with the baking soda but I was also sharing with my husband (who did this too) so if you’re going solo you may want to use less (we had extra when we were done).

Mix in toothpaste…

And water…

Brush your teeth with a generous amount for two minutes, rinse, and repeat. After you’re done brushing be sure to remove any leftover mixture.

After:

Notice a difference?

Here’s a side by side (before on the left, after on the right):
